Vancouver International Airport (YVR), on Sea Island in Richmond, is the second-busiest airport in Canada and an attractive piece of architecture in its own right — high glass walls, totem poles, and Bill Reid sculptures in the international terminal. The Canada Line SkyTrain runs from the airport to downtown in 25 minutes for less than the price of a coffee — the easiest airport transfer of any major North American city.
By rail, VIA Rail's Canadian runs three times weekly to Toronto via Edmonton (a four-day journey through the Rockies and the prairies). Amtrak Cascades has two daily trains south to Seattle (about four hours) and on to Portland and Eugene. The historic 1919 Pacific Central Station in the Strathcona neighbourhood is the terminus for both. Long-distance buses (Greyhound has shut down most western routes; Rider Express, BC Bus North, Pacific Coach) also use this station.
Driving in: BC Highway 99 comes up from the US border at Blaine (90 minutes), and the Trans-Canada Highway 1 crosses the country from the east. The Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay ferry terminals connect to Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
