One of British Columbia's best locations for watching waterfowl, the Reifel Sanctuary is an important migratory stopover and wintering area with over 230 species recorded. It sits in an estuarine marsh on Westham Island, about 6 miles west of Ladner (roughly 40 minutes from downtown Vancouver), accessible by car or bike.
Trails run along dykes and through woodland — all flat, so easy walking. A good selection of birds is present most months; July and August are the quietest. The sanctuary is open 9am to 4pm daily. Call (604) 946-6980 for information.
