Flinty Statue

Cartoonish statue of Josiah Flintabbatey Flonatin, the fictional prospector behind the town's name.

The Flinty statue is not grand art, but it is the right mascot for a town with one of Canada's strangest names. The figure was designed by cartoonist Al Capp and turns the fictional Josiah Flintabbatey Flonatin into a grinning local emblem.

It is a quick stop, best paired with a walk through the centre and the museum. The point is not the statue alone; it is the way a pulp-fiction name became civic identity in a hard-rock mining town.

A story
Flin Flon takes its name from Josiah Flintabbatey Flonatin, a character in J. E. Preston Muddock's 1905 novel The Sunless City. A prospector reportedly liked the name enough to attach it to a promising ore body, and the town kept the joke.
