Getting There

Thompson Airport (YTH), about 10 km north of town, has multiple daily flights from Winnipeg with Calm Air and Perimeter Aviation (about 2.5 hours). The airport is the regional aviation hub for northern Manitoba — small charter and floatplane services connect onward to fly-in fishing camps and remote First Nations communities.

The Via Rail Hudson Bay train (Winnipeg–Churchill) stops at Thompson station, about 5 km east of downtown, twice weekly in each direction; the run from Winnipeg takes roughly 25 hours and Thompson to Churchill another 16. By road, Thompson is at the end of Highway 6 from Winnipeg — 760 km of mostly two-lane through bush, an eight- to ten-hour drive in summer.
