Pisew Falls

A 13-metre cascade on the Grass River about 75 km south of Thompson on Highway 6, accessible by a short boardwalk from the parking lot. A small provincial park surrounds the falls with picnic tables and an interpretive trail.

A longer 22-km backcountry trail leads onward to Kwasitchewan Falls, the tallest in Manitoba; the round trip is a serious two- to three-day hike with bushcraft conditions. For a day visit, the Pisew boardwalk and short loop are enough.

A story
'Pisew' means 'lynx' in Cree — the name describes the sound of the falls, said to resemble a lynx's snarl. The drop is the second-tallest waterfall in Manitoba, after the bigger Kwasitchewan Falls a few hours further on by canoe-and-portage.
