Spirit Way Wolf Murals

A self-guided 2.5 km walk through downtown Thompson with 16 wolf-themed murals — the centrepiece is a six-storey-tall portrait of a wolf on the side of a high-rise apartment block, said to be one of the largest outdoor murals in Canada. The route also passes a series of bronze wolf paw prints set into the sidewalk.

A free trail map is available from the visitor centre. Best walked on a clear day from late spring through early autumn; in winter, plan a stop for warming-up coffee partway through.

A story
Thompson markets itself as the 'Wolf Capital of the World,' on the basis of one of the highest grey-wolf densities anywhere in the country. The Spirit Way trail commissioned 16 large wolf murals through the town centre in 2009; the biggest, on the side of a five-storey apartment block, was painted from a Robert Bateman photograph and is among the largest murals in Canada.
