Cathédrale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption

Modernist 1939 cathedral, mother church of Acadian Catholicism

Address 224 St George St, Moncton, NB E1C 1V7

The Cathédrale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption is the seat of the Archdiocese of Moncton and the spiritual centre of Acadian Catholicism. The current building dates from 1939 — a relatively spare modernist take on Gothic Revival with twin towers and a tall single nave. Inside, the stained glass and the painted interior repay a quiet visit.

The cathedral sits a few blocks south of downtown in a neighbourhood that is the historic heart of Moncton's francophone community. Open most days for visitors.
