The Johnson Geo Centre is built partly underground into the hard rock of Signal Hill, which is exactly the right setting for a museum about Newfoundland's deep geological story. Exhibits cover the island's ancient rocks, offshore oil, space, weather, and the natural forces that shaped this edge of the North Atlantic.
It is a smart companion to Signal Hill rather than a replacement for it. Walk the hill for views and history, then come here to understand why the cliffs, fog, ice, and ocean around St. John's feel so elemental.
