King Street Downtown

King Street is Cobourg's main commercial spine and one of the most coherent surviving Victorian streetscapes in small-town Ontario. The buildings between Division and Third are mostly 1860s-1890s brick, with original upper-floor facades, and the street still functions as a real downtown — independent bookstores, small restaurants, antique shops, and a couple of long-established jewellers and bakeries.

Walk both sides between Victoria Hall and the railway tracks for the best of it. Take twenty minutes to look up: the cornices, dates, and original ironwork are remarkably intact. The cross-streets — Second, Third, Division — hold a handful of more substantial old houses worth a detour, including some grand Italianate and Second Empire homes built when Cobourg was a wealthy lake port.
