Cobourg lives for summer. From late June through August the beach is the centre of town life, the lake is warm enough to swim, and the Sandcastle Festival (early August), Cobourg Highland Games (June), and Waterfront Festival (Canada Day weekend) pull crowds. Book guesthouses well ahead for festival weekends.
Spring and autumn are quieter and pleasant — the downtown still works, the Northumberland Hills are at their best in late September and October colour. Winter is genuinely cold and the town shrinks to its year-round residents, but the harbour ice and the snow-dusted Victorian streetscape have their own appeal for a short visit.
