Bronte Creek Provincial Park

Bronte Creek Provincial Park sits in the southwest corner of Oakville, straddling the Bronte Creek valley. The park covers about 640 hectares and includes mature forest, open meadows, and the Bronte Creek itself, which carved a broad ravine down to Lake Ontario. The trails here are quieter than those in the city parks, and the forest is old enough to have real character.

There is a large outdoor swimming pool — one of the biggest in Ontario — open in summer, which makes the park a popular day outing for families. The campground is basic but functional and offers the closest camping to Toronto without leaving the Greater Toronto Area. Deer and wild turkeys are commonly seen; the park is a reliable spot for fall birding during migration.

A story
The park contains Spruce Lane Farm, a working heritage homestead frozen in the 1890s, with staff in period clothing tending to heritage-breed animals and demonstrating old farming techniques. It's one of the few places in the Greater Toronto Area where you can see an orchard and a working farm that looks much as it would have a century ago.
