Western Development Museum

The branch on the Yellowhead Highway is the largest WDM site by acreage, and the indoor exhibition is matched by the outdoor heritage village that runs through the warm-weather months. Costumed interpreters work in the buildings during the summer; in winter the indoor halls — full of vintage tractors, threshing machines, and prairie-life dioramas — keep the museum interesting.

It is the obvious stop on the way through if you are driving the Yellowhead between Saskatoon and Edmonton. Allow at least two hours, more for the village in summer.

A story
The Western Development Museum runs four branches across Saskatchewan, each focused on a different theme. The North Battleford site is the Heritage Farm and Village — a recreated 1925 prairie town with restored grain elevators, a schoolhouse, a church, a blacksmith, and a railway station moved here from across the province and reassembled around a central street.
