Stake Bay is the administrative seat of Cayman Brac and the closest the island comes to a town centre. It sits on the north coast, halfway along the island's length, and holds the District Administration building, the hospital, the police station, and the Cayman Brac Museum — the small but worthwhile heritage house that covers the human history of the island.
There is not much commercial life — a couple of shops and a gas station. The bay itself is shallow and rocky, more functional than picturesque, but the views west along the coast are good and the stretch of road through Stake Bay is the easiest place on the island to find someone who can tell you anything you need to know.
