Owen Island is a 4-hectare uninhabited cay 200 metres offshore from South Hole Sound, on the south-west coast of Little Cayman. It is reached by a short kayak or paddleboard from South Hole Sound beach or, more rarely, by swimming across the shallow channel. The water between Little Cayman and Owen is no more than a metre and a half deep in most places, with sandy bottom and turtle grass.
The island has a small white-sand beach on its leeward side, calm shallows perfect for swimming, and stretches of casuarina and palm. There are no facilities. It is the kind of place where you bring a packed lunch, a snorkel and a book and have it to yourself for the afternoon. The southern point looks out across the channel to Cayman Brac on a clear day.
