A small private orchid garden on the outskirts of Atenas that holds a collection of native Costa Rican orchid species alongside other tropical plants. It is modest in scale but carefully tended, and the guides know their material — if you have any interest in orchids or tropical botany, the visit is worthwhile.
The garden is easiest to visit with your own transport as it sits outside the town centre. Hours and admission are best confirmed locally before going, as opening times can be irregular. Note that the larger and more famous Jardín Botánico Else Kientzler is actually located in Sarchí, about 25 km north — worth combining as a day trip if you want a more extensive botanical experience.
