Playa Herradura is a quiet bay best suited to swimming, fishing, and using as a base for day trips into the surrounding rainforest. The Los Sueños marina dominates one end of the bay and is the centre of gravity for sport fishing operations. Carara National Park, a short drive north, is one of the easiest places in Costa Rica to spot scarlet macaws.
