Fusterlandia

Fusterlandia is one of the most extraordinary art installations in the Americas — a neighbourhood in Jaimanitas, western Havana, where artist José Fuster has been covering buildings, streets, pavements, and public spaces in intricate ceramic murals since the 1990s. What began with Fuster's own house has expanded to cover the entire surrounding area in a continuous explosion of colour, pattern, and imagery drawn from Cuban culture, Picasso, Gaudí, and Fuster's own imagination.

The neighbourhood is open to walk through freely. Fuster's studio is at the centre and he occasionally appears to meet visitors. The scale of the project — hundreds of buildings, kilometres of streets, all maintained and expanded over decades by Fuster and local residents — is simply staggering. Plan at least an hour to walk through the whole area.
