Museo Provincial de Historia

The Museo Provincial de Historia occupies a nineteenth-century building on Calle Martí, the main pedestrian boulevard that runs through the heart of Pinar del Río. It covers the province's history from pre-Columbian indigenous communities through the colonial period, the independence wars, and into the revolutionary era.

The collection is modest but gives useful context for understanding the province — its indigenous Guanahatabey people, the Spanish colonial economy built on tobacco, and the region's role in the independence movements of the 1870s and 1890s. Labels are in Spanish only, but the artifacts speak clearly enough. The building itself, with its tiled floors and high ceilings, is worth seeing.
