Luperon has no airport. The nearest international airport is Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) in Puerto Plata, about 30 kilometres east along the coast. From there you can take a taxi or hire a car. The journey takes about 45 minutes depending on road conditions.
From Santiago, the journey is about two hours on the highway. From Santo Domingo it is approximately four hours. Public transport is not convenient — there are gua-guas (shared minibuses) that run between Puerto Plata and Luperon, but they are slow and infrequent.
Most independent travellers arrive by rental car, which also makes it easy to visit La Isabela and other sights in the area. Sailors arrive by sea, of course — the marina offers docking, provisioning, and fuel, and the protected bay is the main reason many choose to stop here.
