Bars and Cafes

Sosua's bar scene is concentrated along the main strip of Pedro Clisante in El Batey. The crowd is genuinely international — Canadians, Americans, British, and Europeans mix with Dominican locals. Most places stay open late, and weekends bring live merengue and bachata. The Checkpoint Pub and Sandwich Bar on Beachway (behind PJ's and La Roca) is a reliable daytime and evening option, with happy hour running 5–8pm and a good selection of cocktails. Be aware that the strip has a reputation for hustle — you can have a good time if you go in knowing what to expect.
