The headline beach of the peninsula stretches for three kilometres in a wide curve beneath green cliffs at the far eastern end of the Samaná Peninsula. Coconut palms line the back of the sand, the water is shallow and a bright Caribbean blue, and at the western end a small river runs down across the beach to the sea.
Reach the beach either by boat from Samaná (about 45 minutes) or by road from Las Galeras (about 25 minutes by 4x4, longer otherwise). A handful of beach shacks at the western end serve seafood and cold drinks; the rest of the beach is empty even in peak season. It really is one of the great Caribbean beaches.
