Getting There

Santo Domingo is served by Las Américas International Airport (SDQ), about 25 km east of the city centre. Direct flights connect Santo Domingo with New York, Miami, Atlanta, Madrid, and most major Latin American capitals. Budget carriers including JetBlue and American Airlines serve the New York and Miami routes frequently.

From the airport to the city, the most convenient option is a taxi booked through the official Aerodom counter inside arrivals — fares are fixed at around US$30 to the Zona Colonial or the hotel zone. Negotiated taxis outside the terminal are cheaper but require bargaining. There is no practical public bus service from the airport to the city centre.

By land from Haiti: the border crossing at Jimaní–Malpasse is the main crossing. Buses from Port-au-Prince take 6–8 hours depending on delays at the border. Caribe Tours runs comfortable coaches from Santiago, Puerto Plata, and other Dominican cities to Santo Domingo's bus terminal on Avenida 27 de Febrero.
