El Sunzal sits just west of El Tunco and is often the better choice for learners and longboarders. The wave is slower and more forgiving than Punta Roca, while still reliable enough to justify the surf schools and board rentals clustered nearby.
The beach is rocky in places and not ideal for careless swimming, but it has a calmer feel than El Tunco. Come early for glassier water, then retreat to the shade when the heat and afternoon wind build.
