Marché Saint-Antoine is the main covered market of Pointe-à-Pitre and one of the liveliest in the French Caribbean. Vendors sell spices sold by the scoop — vanilla, colombo powder, quatre-épices — alongside fruit, vegetables, rum punch, and hot snacks. Accras de morue straight from the pan, boudin grillé from the charcoal grills outside, and freshly cut cane juice are the things to eat while you are there.
The market is most active on Saturday mornings, when stalls spill out from the covered hall onto the surrounding streets and the noise and colour reach full intensity. It opens early and the best produce is gone by midday. Even if you are not buying, walking through the market is the most compressed introduction to what Guadeloupe grows, cooks, and eats.
