Musée Edgar Clerc

Grande-Terre's main archaeology museum, focused on the pre-Columbian peoples of Guadeloupe and the wider Caribbean.

Musée Edgar Clerc, near Le Moule, is the best stop on Grande-Terre for understanding Guadeloupe before sugar estates and colonial towns. Its collection is built around Amerindian archaeology, with ceramics, stone tools, ritual objects, and context for the island's Arawak and Kalinago past.

The museum is small, but it adds useful depth to a trip that can otherwise become a circuit of beaches and viewpoints. Pair it with Le Moule's coast or the eastern beaches, and allow time for the grounds as well as the displays; the visit is quiet, compact, and especially worthwhile if you are travelling with curious children or history-minded adults.
