Le Moule Surf Beaches

Le Moule, on the Atlantic north coast of Grande-Terre, is the surfing capital of Guadeloupe. The town faces open ocean and receives consistent Atlantic swells that produce reliable waves — nothing enormous, but good enough to support a surf culture that has grown steadily since the 1980s.

The main surf spots are close to town. Beginners can find gentler breaks, while more experienced surfers head for the reef breaks that work well on bigger swells. Several surf schools operate out of Le Moule, offering lessons and board rental. The town itself is relaxed and unpretentious — a working community that has not been remade for tourists — with a good Saturday market and a small archaeological museum. The drive from Pointe-à-Pitre takes about 40 minutes.

A story
Le Moule was Guadeloupe's first capital before Pointe-à-Pitre took over that role. The town never quite recovered its former prominence, but the waves that made the north Atlantic coast dangerous for colonial-era shipping turned out to be exactly what modern surfers wanted.
