Mémorial ACTe

Mémorial ACTe is the most important museum in Pointe-à-Pitre and one of the most serious cultural sites in the French Caribbean. Its permanent exhibition traces slavery, resistance, abolition, migration, and memory through documents, installations, objects, and personal stories.

The building is striking, dark, and deliberately heavy in tone. Give it time; this is not a quick photo stop. It pairs well with the smaller Schœlcher and Saint-John Perse museums if you want a fuller picture of how Guadeloupe's past still shapes the present.

A story
Mémorial ACTe was built on the site of the Darboussier sugar refinery, turning a place tied to plantation wealth into a public memorial to slavery and its afterlives. That choice of ground is part of the museum's argument.
