Iglesia de San Francisco el Grande

A major Antigua church complex tied to Santo Hermano Pedro, with ruins, chapels, and a pilgrimage atmosphere.

Iglesia de San Francisco el Grande is one of Antigua's essential religious sites, both for its colonial architecture and for its living devotional role. The church complex is closely associated with Santo Hermano Pedro, the Canary Islands-born missionary whose tomb draws pilgrims from across Guatemala.

The site is more than a single church interior: ruined arcades, side chapels, courtyards, and the flow of worshippers give it a layered feeling that many of Antigua's restored monuments lack. It is close enough to the historic centre to combine with a broader walk through the southeast side of town.
