Ceibal is reached from Sayaxché, a riverside town about 60 km south of Flores on the road to Cobán. From Flores, take a bus or hired car south to Sayaxché (about 1.5 hours), then arrange a boat on the Río de la Pasión — the 30–45-minute river journey is part of the experience and the preferred approach. Boat hire with a driver is typically arranged through your hotel in Flores or directly at the Sayaxché waterfront.
Alternatively, a rough dirt track connects Sayaxché to Ceibal by land (about 8 km), passable by 4WD in dry season. Most visitors prefer the river route. Tour operators in Flores offer day trips combining the boat journey, site visit, and sometimes a stop at Aguateca.
There are no facilities at the site itself beyond a small entrance station. Bring water, insect repellent, and cash for the entrance fee.
