Siete Altares

The Siete Altares — seven small waterfalls and natural pools — are the main day excursion from Livingston. The walk there follows the Caribbean coastline north of town through palm forest and past Black sand beaches, taking about 45 minutes to an hour each way. The pools themselves are clear and cool, fed by a small river cascading down through limestone formations.

The trail starts at the north end of Livingston's beach. Go in the morning before the tour groups arrive. The lower pools are easily reached; the upper pools require a bit of scrambling over rocks. Bring water and wear shoes you don't mind getting wet.

A story
Siete Altares (Seven Altars) is a series of seven cascades and natural pools carved into limestone where a small river meets the Caribbean coast, two miles north of Livingston. The pools are connected by a coastal trail through palm and jungle forest. Local legend holds that the seven levels correspond to the seven days of creation — though the name more practically refers to the altar-shaped rock formations around the pools.
