Jacmel sits on Haiti's southern coast, about 90 km from Port-au-Prince by road. The drive takes roughly three to four hours and crosses the spine of the southern peninsula via the dramatic Léogâne–Jacmel highway, which climbs through pine forest and over a 1,000 m pass before dropping into the Bay of Jacmel.
Shared taxis (tap-taps and trotwa) run between Port-au-Prince and Jacmel several times a day from the southern bus stations of the capital. Private taxis can be arranged through any hotel and are markedly more comfortable. A small airport at Jacmel handles occasional charter flights but no scheduled service.
Note: travel by road in Haiti can be affected by political unrest and gang activity around Port-au-Prince. Check current conditions before setting out and avoid the southern exits of the capital after dark.
