Jacmel rewards wandering. The historic centre — a few blocks of nineteenth-century coffee-merchant houses with cast-iron columns and balconies shipped from France — is small enough to walk in an hour and atmospheric enough to keep coming back to. Beyond the town, the natural pools of Bassin Bleu, the beaches at Raymond les Bains and Cyvadier, and the artisan workshops on the back streets give a full week's worth of things to do.
