Hotel Florita

The restaurant at Hotel Florita, occupying a beautifully restored 1888 coffee-merchant house on Rue du Commerce, is the place for a sit-down meal in Jacmel. The dining room is the original tile-floored salon, with shuttered French doors opening onto the street; the bar in the corner serves rum sours that earned the place a fan club among visiting journalists in the 1980s.

The kitchen does a confident Haitian-French menu — fish poached in coconut milk, grilled lambi, lobster thermidor when the boats bring some in. Not cheap by Haitian standards but excellent. Reserve ahead during carnival.
