Port-de-Paix is a transit point more than a destination. The most rewarding thing to do is leave — by boat to Tortuga, an hour's crossing to one of the most evocative islands in the Caribbean. In town itself, a walk along the seafront, a stop at the cathedral, and a sit in the central square fill a morning.
