Puerto Cortés sits about 60 km north of San Pedro Sula on the Caribbean coast and is most easily reached by bus from there. Direct services run roughly every 20–30 minutes during the day from the main San Pedro terminal and take a little under an hour and a half. Coming from the north coast and the Tela/La Ceiba direction, you change buses in El Progreso or San Pedro.
The nearest airport is Ramón Villeda Morales International (SAP) at San Pedro Sula, with onward connections to Tegucigalpa, Miami, Houston and Madrid. There is no passenger ferry service to the Bay Islands from Puerto Cortés — for that, continue east to La Ceiba.
