Playa Coca Cola

Local town beach on the western edge of the bay

Playa Coca Cola is the town beach of Puerto Cortés, a curve of light sand along the western side of the bay. The name comes from the long-gone beachfront kiosk that once sold soft drinks here. It is busy on weekends and during Semana Santa, when families drive in from San Pedro Sula and fill the beach with sun shelters and portable grills.

This is not a swimming beach by international standards — the port traffic and freshwater outflow from the rivers keep visibility low — but it is the easiest place in town to put your feet in the Caribbean. The simple beachside restaurants are reliable for grilled fish and cold Salva Vidas beer.
