Parque Central La Libertad

The lively central plaza and heart of the colonial town

Every Honduran town has a parque central, but Santa Rosa's is one of the more pleasant ones. Shaded benches surround a small central gazebo, and the cathedral rises on one side with the Casa de la Cultura on another. In the evenings it fills with families, food vendors selling baleadas and grilled corn, and teenagers killing time.

The plaza is the natural orientation point for the town. The cobblestone streets radiating from it make up the historic centre, which has been declared a Honduran national monument for its well-preserved Republican and neoclassical architecture. Grab a bench, order something from one of the vendors, and watch the town go by — this is Santa Rosa at its most relaxed.
