Holywell sits at around 1,000 m on the main road into the Blue Mountains from Kingston, and it is the most accessible part of the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park. The 300-acre reserve has four well-marked nature trails ranging from a gentle twenty-minute stroll to a two-hour forest walk, all passing through misty cloud forest. It is one of the best places in Jamaica to see the island's endemic birds — all 30 endemic species have been recorded here.
The park has picnic areas, barbecue pits, and simple self-contained cabins and camping tents for overnight stays. It is a popular weekend escape for Kingstonians, which means it can be busy on Saturdays and Sundays. Come on a weekday and you may have the trails almost to yourself.
