Phoenix Foundry

The Phoenix Foundry is one of the most distinctive buildings in Falmouth — a mid-nineteenth century cast-iron structure, one of the few of its kind remaining in Jamaica. Built around 1810–1830, the foundry supplied iron fittings and machinery to the sugar estates of Trelawny Parish. Its survival is largely a function of Falmouth's economic stagnation: when the money stopped, so did the demolition.

The building is in partial ruin but the ironwork structure is still standing and is included in Falmouth Heritage Renewal's restoration programme. It serves as a striking physical record of the industrial side of the plantation economy — the machinery and infrastructure that made the sugar fortunes possible. It is viewable from the street; access inside depends on the current state of restoration work.
