Navy Island is a small, uninhabited island of about 64 acres lying just off the Port Antonio waterfront, separated from the town by a narrow channel. It was used as a naval base by the British in the 18th century and later, famously, owned by Errol Flynn, who bought it in the 1940s as part of his Jamaican landholding.
The island is now largely overgrown and can be reached by small boat from the town harbour — local boatmen offer trips across. There are a couple of beaches on the sheltered side and the snorkelling is decent. The views back toward Port Antonio with the Blue Mountains behind are excellent. It makes a good half-day excursion from town.
