The Boulevard Bahía is the long waterfront walk along the edge of Chetumal Bay, stretching for several kilometres from the city centre out toward the Calderitas suburb. Locals come here in the evenings to escape the heat; the breeze off the bay is the main reason you'd walk it.
The path is wide, palm-lined and dotted with sculptures and small monuments commemorating the founding of the city. Halfway along stands the Maquetón — a giant scale model of Payo Obispo, the wooden town that Chetumal used to be before a 1955 hurricane wiped it off the map and the modern concrete city rose in its place. Sunset over the bay is the moment, with the lights of Belize barely visible across the water.
