Casa Carranza

The Casa Carranza museum occupies the birthplace of Venustiano Carranza, the Mexican revolutionary general who became president of Mexico from 1917 to 1920 and oversaw the drafting of the 1917 Constitution — one of the most progressive constitutions of its time, establishing labour rights, land reform, and the separation of church and state. Cuatrocienegas is proud of this connection, and the house museum covers Carranza's life, the revolution, and the period of constitutional reform.

The museum is housed in a modest colonial-era building in the town centre, and the exhibits are well-assembled for a small regional institution. Even visitors with limited knowledge of Mexican history will find the context useful — the 1917 Constitution shaped Mexico's political culture for a century, and Carranza's role in producing it makes him a genuinely significant figure. The town's main plaza is named for him.
