The malecon stretches along the Culiacan River through the heart of the city, a landscaped promenade of broad walkways, sculptures, and benches where families gather in the cooler evening hours. It is the most pleasant place for a walk in Culiacan, especially in the stretch near the botanical garden where tropical vegetation comes right down to the water's edge.
Cyclists, joggers, and families with strollers share the path from late afternoon onward. Food vendors set up along the banks selling elotes, fresh fruit cups, and seafood cocktails. The malecon gives a good sense of the city's scale and its relationship with its rivers — Culiacan sits at the junction of the Tamazula and Humaya rivers, which merge here to form the Culiacan River proper.
