Plaza de Armas is the social centre of El Fuerte, with a gazebo, church, arcades, and old houses close around the square. It is the place to understand the town's Pueblo Mágico appeal: slow, shaded, and still lived in.
Come early or late when the heat softens. The plaza works best as a base for wandering the surrounding blocks rather than as a sight to tick off quickly.
