Sinforosa Ravine

Vast Copper Canyon ravine reached from Guachochi, with deep viewpoints and rough hiking routes.

Sinforosa Ravine is the reason most travelers make the extra effort to reach Guachochi. The viewpoint road runs out from town into pine country and ends above a deep, layered canyon where the Verde River cuts through the Sierra Tarahumara.

This is not a casual boardwalk stop. Go with a local driver or guide if you plan to continue beyond the main viewpoint, carry water, and do not underestimate the climb if you hike down toward the falls and canyon floor.

A story
Sinforosa is often called the queen of the ravines in Chihuahua. The nickname is tourist-board language, but the scale is real: the canyon is roughly 1,800 metres deep in places, and it still sees far fewer casual visitors than the Copper Canyon viewpoints on the railway line.
