Parroquia San Mateo Apostol

Huichapan's main colonial church, known for its pink-stone facade and altarpieces

Parroquia San Mateo Apostol is Huichapan's main church and the best first stop in the centre. The eighteenth-century facade is carved in pink stone, with twin bell towers and enough ornament to reward a slow look before you go inside.

The interior keeps gold altarpieces and religious paintings connected to the Passion. It is a working parish, so visit quietly and step out if a service is underway.
