Punta Cometa is Mazunte's ritual. In the late afternoon, people walk the rough path over the headland to watch the sun drop into the Pacific from Oaxaca's southern edge.
Go in shoes, not loose sandals, and carry water. The path is short but dusty and uneven, and the last light can make the return darker than expected. It is still the one sight in Mazunte almost everyone should make time for.
