Museo Universitario

Anthropology museum on the UABC Mexicali campus

The Museo Universitario, on the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California's Mexicali campus, is a small but well-presented anthropology museum focused on the indigenous peoples of Baja California — the Kumeyaay, Cocopa, Kiliwa, and Pai Pai. Exhibits cover archaeology, traditional crafts, and the contemporary status of these communities, several of which still maintain small populations in the surrounding mountains.

The museum also rotates temporary exhibitions on local art and history. Admission is inexpensive and the campus setting means you can pair the visit with a walk through the leafy university grounds. A more substantive cultural stop than the city's main downtown sights.
