El Rey del Cabrito is the most famous cabrito restaurant in Monterrey — and since Monterrey is the capital of cabrito in Mexico, that makes it worth knowing about. The restaurant has been operating in the city centre since 1966, and the roast baby goat here is as good as it gets. The atmosphere is festive and slightly touristy, which doesn't diminish the food.
Cabrito is served by the half or whole animal, roasted on a spit and served with tortillas, beans, and rice. Order it al pastor (on the spit) rather than en salsa. The service is brisk and the prices are moderate by the standards of a place that does this much tourist business.
