Malecón Seafood Stalls

The restaurants and stalls along the Malecón are the best eating in Puerto Peñasco — consistently better and cheaper than anything in the resort zone. The staple is shrimp: by the kilo, in tacos, in soups (aguachile and ceviche), or in the local campechana, a cocktail of shrimp, octopus, and fish in a spiced tomato broth. Fresh fish tacos are a close second, and the tortillas are made by hand.

There is no formal district layout — you find the best spots by walking the waterfront and following the fishing boats. The places with plastic chairs on the pavement and handwritten menus are consistently better than the ones with laminated photos. The fish-and-shrimp market nearby sells directly from the boats and is worth visiting whether or not you cook.
